Aims/Description: The aim of this module is to provide an overview of the economics of innovation. The module will study firms' incentives to invest in innovation and the resulting policy implications. Expanding your knowledge of microeconomics this module will include the relationship between market structure and innovation, the role of firm cooperation and the effects of mergers on innovative activities. We will also look at the role of intellectual property rights / patent systems and policy interventions. As many innovations in recent years are in the areas of digitalization, artificial intelligence, and big data, the module will also cover those topics.
