Aims/Description: This module is an introduction to the subdisciplines of linguistics known as phonetics and phonology, focusing on the sounds of the English language. It is designed to provide you with an understanding of the key concepts and terminology necessary to describe and explain sounds of English and of other languages. It will equip you with the practical skills necessary to transcribe and write about sounds. It serves as an essential basis for more advanced linguistic study.
