Aims/Description: Increasingly it is necessary for linguists to provide acoustic evidence in support of claims they make about spoken data. In this module you will undergo training in the use of specialist computer software to provide robust analyses of a range of different phonetic parameters. This will involve working with waveforms, spectrograms, spectra and pitch traces. You will be shown how to write computer code to allow you to automate speech analysis tasks. The module is likely to be of particular interest to you if you are considering further study or a career in phonetics, speech science or speech technology.
