30 Credits AUTUMN

Aims/Description: There has been no piece of literature more influential on Western and colonial understandings of sex, gender, and sexuality than the Bible. This module will teach you how to read the biblical text closely and to engage with theorists whose approaches to the Bible yield new understandings of this ancient text. Topics include masculinity, femininity, queer and trans identities, sexual pleasure, and gender-based violence. As we explore these topics together, you'll have the opportunity to focus on a particular area of interest and develop your own research. It is not expected that you have deep or broad familiarity with the biblical text before taking the module; only that you are able to perform close analytical readings.
