0 Credits GRADUATE YEAR

Aims/Description: This module provides training across the duration of the doctoral programme in support of candidate's high-level engagement with their field of research, integrates them into the research culture of the School and PhD cohort, facilitates peer-to-peer learning, guides preparation for key milestones of study, and supports the development of transferable skills.  Key training content includes:  review checkpoints (including induction, confirmation review, second year progress check, start of third year progress check, and submission review); School Doctoral Training Programme;  other ad-hoc School-based training activities; and engagement with professional research events (within and beyond the School).  This training develops candidates' understanding of the research process, connections to broader theoretical and methodological fields, development of independent research skills, and cultivation of broader professional skills. Focussing on disciplinary training, the module explores relevant research approaches, methods, and components to guide candidates in project development and planning, and support the preparations for the candidate's confirmation review process. Further training develops additional specialist and professional skills through peer-to-peer learning, engagement with the School's research culture, and bespoke training in preparation for key milestones across the PhD journey.  The module is delivered through a combination of cohort-based student workshops, review meetings, and reflection on discipline-specific research activities within and beyond the School.
