15 Credits SPRING

Aims/Description: MGT61074 gives the students an overview of some of the key theories and research areas that set the context for the study of creative industries. This module builds on the groundwork from MGT61074, offering an overview of case studies that develop the general frameworks introduced in Semester 1, for example: A case study of a specific creative city, to build on Lecture 3 on creative cities; A case study of the European Capital of Culture to build on Lecture 6 on festivals and events; A case study of workforce diversity policies to build on lectures 8 and 9 on working in CCIs. And it will offer an overview of current controversies, including:  The sustainability of festivals in the context of environmental crisis; The ethics of event sponsorship; The future of museums in the context of decolonialisation; The impact of digital on creative business models. The aim of the module is threefold. First, to add depth and detail to the learning from Semester 1; second, to introduce students to research-led staff expertise on current controversies; and third, to set up themes and ideas for students' dissertations. The module will also draw on resources in SUMS' new digital lab space with practice based activity.
