20 Credits AUTUMN

Aims/Description: The module introduces technology-driven innovation and entrepreneurship in a manufacturing/engineering context. Organisations have become increasingly aware of the importance of making the most of new commercial opportunities, innovation and the initiation of organisational change. This module examines innovation-based strategies as a source of competitive advantage and how to build manufacturing/engineering based organisations that excel at identifying, building and commercialising technological innovations both present and emerging. Further, the module considers entrepreneurial or `intrapreneurial' intent by critically considering the extent to which it is possible to replicate entrepreneurial DNA and 'grow' it in a corporate context. The module will place specific focus on the linkages between technology innovation and entre/intrapreneurship to provide learners with a clear understanding the role of technology as a process, radical or discontinuous enablers for competitive advantage.
